Submissions

Submit theoretically significant linguistic research through the official ELR Janeway editorial system.

Platform: Janeway Review: Double-anonymous External reviewers: Normally at least two
Before beginning a submission, prepare both an Anonymous Manuscript and an Identified Manuscript.

General ELR manuscripts should normally be in English and LaTeX is strongly preferred. HCLT manuscripts must be in Traditional Chinese and must include both Word and PDF files.

Before You Submit

Please complete the following checks before opening the online submission workflow.

  • Confirm that the manuscript falls within the Aims and Scope.
  • Prepare the manuscript according to the Author Guidelines.
  • Prepare a fully anonymised reviewer version in accordance with Ensuring an Anonymous Review .
  • Prepare a separate identified version containing complete author information.
  • Confirm that all authors and the intended author order are correct.
  • Disclose previous versions, competing interests, funding, and other relevant information accurately.

Submission Types

Section Research Articles

Substantial original theoretical, empirical, formal, or historical linguistic research.

Section Working Papers

Developing research with a clear theoretical contribution and sufficient scholarly substance for formal circulation.

Section Theoretical Notes

Focused observations, analytical problems, conceptual distinctions, and emerging theoretical proposals.

Section Commentaries & Responses

Scholarly engagement with published claims, analyses, theoretical debates, or continuing discussions.

Section Special Collections

Contributions intended for an active ELR Special Collection.

Distinctive ELR Format Theoretical Forum

Concise 500–1,000 word theoretical contributions. Authors may contact the Editorial Office where guidance on the appropriate submission section is required.

Submission Files

General ELR
Anonymous manuscript + Identified manuscript. English is required unless a specific publication programme states otherwise. LaTeX source and compiled PDF are strongly preferred.
HCLT
Traditional Chinese. Anonymous Word + Anonymous PDF + Identified Word + Identified PDF are required.
Supplementary files
Upload data, appendices, code, figures, or other supporting files separately where appropriate.

What Happens After Submission

  1. Technical and completeness check.
  2. Initial assessment by a Co-Editor-in-Chief.
  3. Assignment to the relevant Subject Editor.
  4. Invitation of normally at least two independent reviewers.
  5. Double-anonymous external peer review.
  6. Editorial synthesis and, where appropriate, revision.
  7. Additional or third review where necessary.
  8. Joint final academic decision by the Co-Editors-in-Chief.
  9. Production and continuous publication following acceptance.
